La Porta occupies 13.5 hectares of the last piece of free land in Querétaro center. It is a hilly site which the clients want to develop for mix-use high rise buildings. HLA master plan minimizes the section and length of the main access street, minimizing also the cut-fill in order to preserve the hill. The access to the site is through a bridge over a water dam, a monumental element was chosen among 5 different studies to create an urban landmark-threshold. Four plazas create access and return points along the main street. The plazas pavings are designed as artistic sculptural elements which combine local stone, corten-steel and natural concrete on floors as well as on retaining walls and urban balconies or miradors.
